40 X 3 FEET WIDE
One of the premier law firms in Beverly Hills approached us, asking if one of our MEGA photos could be printed 40 feet long for a hallway outside their Partners' offices. As this is a narrow hallway, people would be viewing the photo from up close, and they wanted an image that would both fit the mood they were seeking, and would also be technically perfect and tack sharp when viewed from a foot away. As an exclusive entertainment law firm, representing many of the top actors in Hollywood, they were very careful about their image, and their interior design, and this photo needed to be printed to the same ultra high standards as the rest of their office. We knew this was a big challenge - at 40 feet long, this would be one of the largest photos ever printed.
We visited the office and rendered ten candidate photos from our MEGA series which had sufficient resolution to be printed at 40 feet. All images were able to retain the sharpness of a standard photo, as opposed to a billboard. Billboards are low res files, printed at a very low resolution of 20-30 DPI, but this is unnoticeable to the human eye, as billboards are viewed from hundreds of feet away, not from a foot away as would be the case here.
They selected Solid Gold, an image of Aspen trees during Fall. Once we arrived on this image, and arrived at the client's preferred height, it was apparent that we needed additional width. The photographer, Matthew Welch, then went back into his archive and found the original source images from the shoot, and recomposited the image, using additional newly found frames on both the left and the right, in order to allow the photo to fit perfectly across the three walls that comprise the photo. Not only are we able to crop images to fit, but we can also dig into our archive and actually recomposite new images for these large custom installations, and do so in a matter of days.
