CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS:

OUR PHOTO STYLES, COLOR OPTIONS, SIZES & FRAMES

WE GIVE YOU AN UNPRECEDENTED ABILITY TO CUSTOMIZE YOUR PHOTOS

We decided to do something very unusual for an art gallery - put you in control. We figure it's your wall, your house, and your aesthetic, so it only seems fair that you get full control over how your art looks. We give you an unprecedented ability to customize your photo to fit your décor and your style: you can customize the size, the crop, the color, the paper, the frame, the linen liner, and even choose low-glare glass or acrylic.

Our photos are available in a range of styles, from luminous facemounts to standard photographic prints. We offer a range of sizes and framing options, and all images can also be printed to a custom size upon request. We also are one of the first galleries to let you control the color of the photo - almost all of our images are available as either color or black and white.

No matter which style you choose, know that there is one commonality across all of them: our fanaticism with each detail in the photographic, processing and printing processes. Our images are some of the highest resolution images ever captured, and in addition we use the highest quality papers in the world, including one proprietary paper, as well as low-reflection acrylic and some of the best frames available in the world. These elements build on each other and cumulatively create photos of exceptional clarity, beauty and longevity.

PHOTO STYLES

PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINT

Our photographic prints are museum quality, custom-printed archival pigment photographs, printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta , Ilford Gold Fiber Gloss or Ilford Gold Fiber Silk Baryta paper (archival for 200 years according to Wilhelm Research under standard indoor lighting). These are super thick 310gsm photographic papers featuring a traditional barium sulfate (baryta) base. The baryta base enhances the photo's surface, producing creamy whites and velvety blacks that form part of the unique look and feel of a traditional fiber based print. The papers produce real high definition images with an extended tonal range, ranging from vivid color to dramatic black and whites.

These prints are available in any size, framed or unframed, and with or without a linen liner (a linen liner is our premium version of matboard, wrapped, not surprisingly, in linen). See below for the range of frames that you can choose from.

ACRYLIC FACEMOUNT

Acrylic facemounts are archival pigment photographic prints, directly mounted to a sheet of acrylic. We use a custom-made proprietary paper developed by our printer that contains Iridium particles, for incredible luminosity and dynamic range. These images are so luminous, people often think they are backlit.

To seal the image, we mount the front of the photo to optically clear 95% UV-blocking acrylic. We then mount the back of the photo to another sheet of acrylic which seals and protects the back of the print. Lastly, we use a strong frame (such as an Italian ROMA frame) on the back of the photo - this is extremely strong and straight hardwood, and it will keep the photo from bowing. If we go to this much effort for the back of the image that you'll never see, then you can be sure we go to even greater extremes for the image itself. Our acrylic facemounts are estimated to be archival for 120 years under standard indoor lighting conditions.

These acrylic facemounts are available framed or unframed, and with or without a linen liner. Without a frame, they float 1.5" off the wall and come ready to hang. Please note for shipments outside the US, to keep shipping costs affordable, our acrylic facemounts use a slightly different paper and aluminum rails as the frame on the back, which are rigid and strong but more lightweight.

MATTE PHOTO

This is an archival pigment matte photographic print directly on a rigid backing such as DiBond. It has a backmount and floats off the wall like our acrylic facemounts (but without the acrylic). It is our most low glare option, perfect for rooms with lots of windows and glare. To make a matte print, instead of printing on a sheet of photographic paper, we use a new technology to print directly on the backing itself, using pigment-based photographic inks which are micro-encapsulated to block UV rays and prevent fading (estimated to be archival for over 100 years under standard indoor lighting conditions).

Because there is no glass or acrylic on top of the photo, there is virtually no glare. The flip side of this is that the image surface is not protected by acrylic against potential damage (e.g. kids throwing balls in the house, food fights, etc), so please bear this in mind if choosing this option. It is a great option for window-filled rooms with the potential for glare, but perhaps not the best option in a house filled with rambunctious young children....

SURFBOARDS AND SKATEBOARDS

All of our photos can be custom printed as either skateboards or surfboards. Our surfboards are high res photos, printed on fiberglass and wrapped around a handmade, custom-shaped surfboard. Then the fiberglass resin is applied on top of the photo, so the photo is embedded in the board, under the fiberglass. All surfboards can be ordered as glossy or matte finishes. While this is designed to be a piece of art, this is also an actual surfboard that could be surfed. It has a leash plug and slots for the fins (not included) on the bottom. Surfboards can be ordered as longboards or stand-up paddleboards as well - up to 15 feet long.

Our skateboards are also high-quality, made with 7 ply North American maple, and cold pressed with skateboard-specific glue, and using a digital transfer to bond the inks to the decks (rather than an inferior process using a sticker or sublimation). Skateboards can be ordered in different shapes/sizes, and either as a single, diptych, triptych, or with 4, 5, 6 (or more) decks/boards. The sky's the limit. Custom-ordered skateboards take around 4 weeks for production, and surfboards take around 6 weeks.

If you'd like to discuss a custom order of a different image, or at a different size, please give us a ring at 310-853-3564 or by email at art@pacificcoast.gallery.

COLOR OR BLACK & WHITE

COLOR OR BLACK & WHITE

People often ask photographers if they prefer to shoot in black & white or color. To this question, we say yes.

Turns out we like both. And most of our images work well in both the color and black & white versions, so we've decided to do something very unusual - let you decide. Hey, it's your wall, your house, and your vibe, so it only seems fair that you get to choose.

The vast majority of our images are available as either color or black and white (a few don't seem to work one way or the other, and those are just available in one color option). You can specify if you want the color or black and white version when you place the order.

FRAME OPTIONS

UNFRAMED PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINTS

Our unframed photographic prints are printed on our museum quality archival baryta paper. They are printed with a white border and shipped in a tube. The width of the border varies by photo, ranging from approximately 1/4" for the 8.5x11" photos, up to 2-3" for 24x36" and larger photos.

Click here to see more detail on the exact dimensions of the photos, borders, linen liners, frames, and external dimensions.

Some images may come with slightly wider borders if the crop would necessitate cropping off a meaningful part of the image. In these instances, we will print the entire image uncropped with wider borders.

FLOATMOUNT

This floatmounted photo style is an unframed acrylic facemount or matte photo with a sleek modern look that floats off the wall. While there is no traditional frame on the sides of the photo, there is a frame on the back of the photo, which provides support and allows it to float 1.5" off the wall. These floatmounts come ready to hang.

For our acrylic facemounts, to seal the image, we mount the front of the photo to 1/8 inch optically clear 95% UV-blocking acrylic. We then mount the back of the photo to a rigid 3mm acrylic backer which seals and protects the back of the print. Our matte floatmounts are sealed with a UV-blocking coating, but they have no acrylic on the front as they are our no-glare option.

And unlike most floatmounts which skimp on the frame on the back, we use a thick wood frame on the back of the photo, designed to keep the photo from bowing due to seasonal changes in temperature and humidity over the years. If we go this much effort for the back of the image that you'll never see, then you can be sure we go to even greater extremes for the image itself.

These floatmounts are also available framed with our range of frames which can be seen below. Please note for shipments outside the US, to keep shipping costs affordable, our acrylic facemounts use aluminum rails as the frame on the back, which are also rigid and strong but more lightweight for shipping.

STANDARD FRAMES

We use matte frames for our photographic prints. Spacers are used to separate the photo from the acrylic glass.

The frames are available in either black, white or natural wood. For our 8.5x11" and 13x19" smaller photos, the frames are 3/4" wide. For our larger photos (24x36" and larger) we use a 2 3/4" frame in our standard frame series (see below for our premium Roma frames which go up to 4" wide).

Additionally, all photos are printed with a white border (unless you add a linen liner, in which case there is no border as the linen liner serves the same purpose). The width of the border varies by photo, ranging from approximately 1/4" for the 8.5x11" photos, up to 2-3" for 24x36" and larger photos.

Click here to see more detail on the exact dimensions of the photos, borders, linen liners and frames.

PREMIUM ROMA FRAMES

This is our most premium framing option, featuring Italian Roma frames. Roma is considered to be one of the very top frame makers in the world. They use only the highest quality hardwoods and still make their frames the old fashioned way, finishing them by hand. Here you can see the frames which are available in a range of finishes and colors. They range from 1 7/8 to 4 inches in width.

You can add an optional linen liner (available in black or white). The linen liner is a thick mat board, covered in stretched linen, for a very premium look. The linen liner varies from .75 to 3 inches wide based on the photo size. Please email us if you'd like to add a linen liner to your order, and click here to see more detail on the exact dimensions of the photos, borders, linen liners and frames.

Depending on the size of the photo, this premium option with a linen liner can add up to 6-7 inches to each side of the final photo, 12-14 inches total. That will be in addition to the width of the image, so please bear this in mind when ordering. For example, a 40x60 inch image, with 4" ROMA frame and 3" linen liner will be 54x74 inches total (7 inches added to each side, left/right/top/bottom). These external dimensions can be seen in the chart here.

Due to our scale, we are able to offer these premium Roma frames at a price significantly lower than what most frame shops charge for Roma frames, roughly $1000 less on the larger sizes.

ACRYLIC OPTIONS

STANDARD ACRYLIC

Even our standard acrylic isn't "standard". Instead, for our acrylic facemounts, we use a premium acrylic which is optically clear and 95% UV blocking.

And for our framed photographic prints, our standard acrylic is a premium 99% UV blocking acrylic.

PREMIUM LOW-REFLECTION ACRYLIC

We also offer a premium acrylic which has reduced reflections.

On acrylic facemounts, this is a commercial grade acrylic called TruLife, and in addition to being low-reflection, it is also scratch-resistant and anti-static to repel dust, and it is 99% UV blocking. This is a good choice for bright rooms with lots of windows or glare, as well as heavily trafficked spaces and commercial installations wherre people may be tempted to touch the artwork.

For our framed photographic prints, our premium low-glare acrylic is Optium Museum acrylic, which is also 99% UV blocking. Please email us if you'd like to add this low glare acrylic to your order.

LINEN LINERS

NO LINER

Our framed photographic prints, framed acrylic facemounts and framed matte photos come standard with no linen liner, but a linen liner is available as an optional upgrade (the linen liner is our premium version of a matboard, covered in stretched linen).

For our standard acrylic facemounts and matte photos, the photo will extend all the way to the frame (with no white border) as shown here.

For a framed photographic print, there will be a white border around the image. Click here for more detail on the exact dimensions of the photos, borders, linen liners and frames.

LINEN LINER

Our linen liners are thick mat boards, covered in stretched linen, for a very premium look. They are available in black or white and are 2-3 inches wide (except on smaller 8.5 x 11 and 13 x 19 inch photos where they are 3/4" wide).

Click here for more detail on the exact dimensions of the photos, borders, linen liners and frames.

If you'd like to add a linen liner to your order, please email us and we can create a custom order for you.

SIZES

Below are the typical sizes for most of our photos. Some medium format and large format photos have a different aspect ratio, and will be offered in sizes that may be slightly different than these listed below due to the different aspect ratios of these photos when captured (e.g. 4x5 instead of 2x3). Likewise, MEGAs and panoramic photos will be offered in different sizes.

If you're looking for a custom size, we can accommodate custom sizes as well. Please click here to request a custom size.

8.5 x 11 INCH

These 8.5 x 11 inch (22 x 28 cm) photos are available in all of the photo styles above, are unsigned and are open editions. They come with a thin 1/4 inch border if unframed. They're unsigned and are open editions. Framed, the photo goes to the edge of the frame and the border is not visible.

Click here for more detail on the exact dimensions of the photos, borders, linen liners and frames at various sizes. Please note certain images may have a slightly wider border on the longer side if the standard 1/4 inch borders would have required cropping off a meaningful part of the image. In these instances, rather than hurt the image with an aggressive crop, we extend the borders instead, showing as much as possible of the original image.

MEGAS

MEGAs are our series of large format, ultra high resolution images that can be printed over 50 feet (15 meters) wide. All are signed limited editions and come with a certificate of authenticity.

They're some of the most detailed images ever captured. Click here to see how they're created.

Due to their extremely high resolution, MEGAs are very malleable and are custom printed to specific sizes to perfectly fit a large space in an office or a home.

In addition, they can often be cropped to fit a specific space. Because we have so much resolution in the image to work with, custom sizes and crops are rarely a problem. If you'd like to discuss a custom MEGA, please call 310-853-3564 or email art@pacificcoast.gallery.

PANORAMIC PHOTOS

Panoramic photos come in a variety of sizes and aspect ratios which vary by the photo. Our most popular sizes are 24 x 60 inches (62 x 152 cm), 30 x 75 inches (76 x 190 cm) and 36 x 90 inches (91 x 229 cm). They are signed limited editions and come with a certificate of authenticity.

If you don't see the size you're looking for, please contact us and we'll be happy to create a custom size for you.

TRIPTYCHS (AND BEYOND)

Our panoramic photos are also all available as diptychs (2 panels), triptychs (3 panels) and other "polyptychs" based on the length of the image, and on your personal taste and how many panels you'd like. In fact, for one client we printed a 40 foot long hexaptych (6 panels) - one of the largest photos ever printed.

All of our images can be custom ordered, and you can specify the number of panels you'd like. So if you don't see the size you're looking for, please contact us and we'll be happy to create a custom polyptych for you.

HORIZONTAL OR VERTICAL

In our quest to give you more choice and control over your art, we decided to not stop at just letting you customize the color. We also give you control over the photo's orientation. For most images (unless the alternate crop just doesn't work for a certain photo), we let you choose between a horizontal and a vertical image to best fit your space.

And if it turns out you need a different crop, like a panoramic image, or a square, not a problem. Just let us know and we'll create a custom crop of an image with an alternate aspect ratio, just for you to fit your space.

CUSTOM SIZES

Most images can be cropped to custom sizes to fit your individual space. Depending on the resolution of the source image, larger image sizes may be available as well. Additional custom frames can also be ordered. For information about custom orders, please click here or call 310-853-3564 or email art@pacificcoast.gallery.

LIMITED EDITION

LIMITED EDITION

All of our images are limited editions (except the smallest sizes, 8.5 x 11 and 13 x 19 inch, which are open edition). Edition sizes vary based on the size of the photo and also on each artist's specifications.

All of our limited edition photos come with a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by the artist.

MUSEUM QUALITY COMES STANDARD

SOME OF THE HIGHEST RESOLUTION PHOTOS EVER CREATED

We are one of the leading galleries in the US specializing in super high-resolution large format photos, some with resolutions over three gigapixels (3000 megapixels), over 100 times the resolution of a normal photo. They can be printed at wall-filling sizes and remain tack sharp with incredible detail. Click here to read more about how we create our MEGAs.

COMPLETELY CUSTOMIZABLE

We don't live in your house, so why should we dictate the final presentation of the photo? That's why we give you an unprecedented level of control: you get to choose either the color or black & white version, a photographic print or a matte photo or an acrylic facemount, the choice of framed or unframed, the horizontal or vertical version, the size, matting, acrylic, and in fact we’ll even custom crop and print a custom size for you to exactly fit your space.

HAND PRINTED

Every one of our photos is custom hand printed by a master printer with over 30 years of printing experience, on either the incredibly luminous paper with Iridium for our acrylic facemounts, or a museum quality thick 310gsm paper for our traditional photographic prints. This gives them the look and feel of a traditional fiber based print, with creamy whites and deep, velvety blacks.

HANDCRAFTED FRAMING

All of our framed prints are custom handcrafted. We offer premium Roma frames which are handfinished in Italy and are among the highest quality frames available in the world today. We also offer TruLife acrylic, the most advanced acrylic available - it virtually eliminates reflections, is scratch-resistant and repels dust.

MUSEUM QUALITY (EVEN ON THE BACK)

For our facemounts, we go to the extreme step of using an expensive hardwood frame as the back floatmount, which resists bending or bowing with changes in temperature and humidity. If we put this much care into the back of the photo that no one will ever see, you can rest assured we put even more love into the image itself.

ARCHIVAL UP TO 200 YEARS

Our traditional photographic prints are printed on a museum quality archival baryta paper, which is estimated to have 200 years of longevity. Our acrylic facemounts are estimated to be archival for 120 years under standard indoor lighting conditions and also feature high grade 95% UV blocking acrylic to prevent fading or color shifting from light exposure, and our matte photos are UV coated and archival for 100 years under standard indoor lighting.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS HAVE TO SAY

"I dropped by Pacific Coast Gallery, a really special place, one day as I was passing by and was awe struck by the imagery of Daydream. The colors are so vibrant that when I first observed the artwork I assumed it was backlit. The color literally pops off the image. I went back multiple times to the Gallery and each visit I would end up standing in front of this piece to admire its color, shadows, light and forms. Ultimately I acquired Daydream for our home, and am still captivated by the brilliant color and artistic eye of the photographer."

Steve R.

Hermosa Beach, CA

"No one else could print a photo as big as I needed.

I have a huge wall, and I needed a huge image to fill it. So glad I found the MEGAs - my photo is a 3 by 9 foot triptych, and every inch of it is tack sharp.

People can't believe it when they see it - they get up close to inspect all of the barnacles on the pier. It is just insane."

Michael C.

Redondo Beach, CA

"My experience with Pacific Coast Gallery has been nothing short of exceptional.

The works that I chose were delivered in a timely manner and the framing was just as I ordered.

Perfect."

Elan S.

Waltham, MA

"We take great pride in designing our clients' homes with original, thoughtful and interesting pieces. Every project is a new canvas, and we start all over with the same intention. Matt's photography captures the beauty of nature, travel and the lifestyle of the globe with an artistic and reverential eye. His photography based on his community and travels are intelligent, creative and original.

Pacific Coast Gallery is easy to work with and there are myriad ways the photographs can be produced for your installation. They are so easy to work with and I enjoy sending clients in to see what captures their eye. This is a wonderful gallery and I highly recommend working with them on your next project."

Julie Gelsey, Interior Inspirations

Manhattan Beach, CA

"When we were in the early construction phase of building the Emory Proton Therapy Center with Stantec Architecture, we reached out to Pacific Coast Gallery - we knew their series of ultra high resolution MEGAs could be printed at the wall-filling sizes we needed – some as long as 20 feet wide.

Working with Matt and Monica and Pacific Coast Gallery was a pleasure from start to finish. Matt even personally visited the construction site to get a feel for the space, and then we were presented with dozens of curated images to select from...

But beyond their high level of service and professionalism, what really matters is the finished result, and the installed photos are even more striking than we could have imagined. In fact, I was so blown away with the finished work that I even acquired a few of Matt's photos for my own home!"

Ashley Preisinger, Former President, Emory Proton Therapy Center

Atlanta, GA

"I have clients from Los Angeles to New York and Pacific Coast Gallery has a range of amazing, high quality images to suit my clients' wide range of tastes. I love everything from their cool 1970s beach photos to their super bright and sharp modern landscape photos to their FLOWs with a global (Peru, Morocco, China) flair. Their quality and attention to detail is beyond compare; my clients are always impressed by the sharpness of the prints and the high quality of the handcrafted framing."
